Floris Klumpers received his PhD at Utrecht University on work on inter-individual differences in the neurobiology of anxiety and then moved to the Donders Institute to work as a post-doc on the impact of stress on affective neural circuity and memory. Currently he’s an assistant professor at the Behavioural Science Institute and the Donders Centre for Cognitive Neuroimaging. His main research interest is explaining individual differences in behaviour by studying the neurobiology of emotion. To this end, he studies psychopharmacological, genetic and psychophysiological pathways mediating individual differences in anxiety. As main tools he uses novel fear conditioning and stress induction methods combined with assessments of autonomic and somatic markers (startle, HR, SCR) and functional neuroimaging. At EPAN lab, he works on creating a bridge towards more clinically oriented work through a large-scale longitudinal project on stress-related resilience in police officers. In addition, he currently works on the integration of traditional fear conditioning measures with active behavioural measures of approach/avoidance to model costly avoidance behaviour and it’s psychophysiological origins.
