Martin Schlink

My name is Martin Schlink, and I am a master’s student in Cognitive Neuroscience specialising in Perception, Action & Decision-Making at Radboud University Nijmegen. I completed my bachelor’s degree in Cognitive Science at the Technical University in Darmstadt, with a focus on the intersection between cognitive psychology and computational modelling approaches. My bachelor’s thesis explored human recognition of facial emotional cues, specifically identifying relevant components of emotional expressions by filtering either horizontal or vertical structures. Motivated by my desire to enhance my modelling skills and deepen my expertise in neuroscientific methods, I joined the CNS master’s program in Nijmegen. During the academic year 2024/2025, I will be undertaking my master’s internship at the EPAN lab under the supervision of Mariana Carneiro de Andrade, Prof. Karin Roelofs and Prof. Ivan Toni. The research project investigates the use of transcranial alternating current stimulation (tACS) to enhance the efficacy of exposure therapy in socially anxious individuals by improving social-emotional control. My role includes different aspects of data collection, such as guiding participants through behavioural test batteries, MRI scanning procedures and applying the tACS. For my thesis, I will focus on adaptive learning during the Reversal Learning Task and examine its connection to fear reactivity during exposure sessions.
