Carla Coca

My name is Carla Coca. I am a second-year Cognitive Neuroscience master’s student in the track of development and lifelong plasticity at Radboud University, where I completed my bachelor’s degree in Biology with a minor in Neurobiology. My interest in non-invasive brain stimulation was sparked during my participation as a volunteer at the BeNe Brain Conference last year. After completing a lab rotation with Dr. L. Verhagen, I became particularly interested in Transcranial Ultrasound Stimulation (TUS) and I decided I wanted it to be my focus for my master’s internship. Now I will be working alongside Kenneth van der Zee in his project, which focuses on the role of the amygdala and dACC in approach-avoidance conflict in volatile environments, using transcranial ultrasound (TUS) for precise neuromodulation. By targeting these key brain regions, we hope to gain insights into how individuals process emotional stimuli and make decisions in volatile environments, as well as how they integrate emotional stimuli into their decision-making process.  I will be working with the Experimental Psychopathology & Affective Neuroscience, Intention & Action, and Cognitive Neuromodulation labs supervised by Karin Roelofs, Ivan Toni, and Lennart Verhagen
